Advocating for enabling policies, increased investment, and access to life-saving innovations across Africa since 2015.
CHReaD brings together civil society organizations, research institutions, academia, and the private sector to advocate for an enabling policy environment that promotes research, innovation, and access to high-impact health technologies in Kenya and across Africa.
Founded in 2015 and hosted by AMREF Health Africa since 2020, we have grown from a national coalition into the region's leading voice for health R&D investment and policy change.
Saving lives through health research, innovation, and development.

Advancing sustainable and equitable financing mechanisms to strengthen Africa's health research and innovation ecosystem.
Promoting equitable access to medicines, technologies, diagnostics, and health innovations for communities across Africa.
Driving evidence informed policies and strategic advocacy to accelerate impactful health research and development across the continent.

CHReaD advocates for increased domestic investment in Health Research, Development, and Innovation (RD&I), including the realization of Kenya's commitment to allocate 2% of GDP to R&D under the STI Act 2013. We champion increased Domestic Resource Mobilization (DRM), sustainable and innovative financing mechanisms, and enhanced Official Development Assistance (ODA) to strengthen locally driven innovation ecosystems. Our work aligns with the African Union's STISA-2034 and Agenda 2063 frameworks to advance Africa's scientific sovereignty, health security, and sustainable development.
CHReaD advances efficient, transparent, and harmonized policy and regulatory systems that accelerate access to safe, high-quality health technologies. We support regional regulatory harmonization and advocate for accountable, streamlined processes that remove bottlenecks in research, innovation, and technology approval pathways.
CHReaD supports the strengthening of policymakers, researchers, institutions, and innovators to enhance evidence-informed decision-making and drive impactful health innovation. Through collaboration, research translation, and ecosystem partnerships, we contribute to building resilient African scientific leadership aligned with continental priorities for innovation and health systems transformation.
CHReaD promotes accountability in the implementation of health RD&I policies, financing commitments, and governance frameworks. We track progress, amplify stakeholder engagement, and advocate for measurable action to ensure commitments translate into equitable health outcomes, stronger innovation systems, and long-term public impact across Africa.
Researchers, advocates, and innovators united by a commitment to Africa's health R&D agenda.
